We’re now Relationship Works: the new name for Relate Avon
We're now Relationship Works, the new name for Relate Avon. Building on 80 years of experience in relationship counselling, we've made the bold move to become a fully independent charity - protecting specialist, local support for our community for generations to come.
Why rebrand from Relate Avon to Relationship Works?
The rebrand follows our decision to operate independently rather than join the national Relate's merger with Family Action, a larger multi-service organisation. This decision protects the specialist, face-to-face relationship support that over 100,000 people across Bristol and Bath have relied on over eight decades.
The new name, Relationship Works, reflects:
our focus on relationships of all kinds.
the team's commitment to supporting those relationships.
the belief that when we work together, lives change for the better.
Why this matters for the Bristol and Bath area
It’s more than a name change. Becoming independent ensures the continuity of our highly valued relationship counselling, sex therapy and family counselling. The benefits of this independence for our clients and community include:
Guaranteed local appointments: the change secures the future of face-to-face counselling in Bristol and Bath alongside online options.
Continued specialist support: relationships of all kinds remain the sole focus, including relationship counselling for individuals, couples and families and sex therapy.
Trusted team approach: a new name but the same experienced, collaborative team of counsellors.
Accessible pricing: as a local charity, we maintain sliding-scale fees to support more people.
Local and responsive: all decisions are made right here in Bristol and Bath to meet the community's needs.
Rob Booth, our Chief Executive, explains the decision:
"We’re now Relationship Works - same specialist counselling, same trusted team but with the independence to guarantee what matters most to our community. This rebrand allows us to protect face-to-face appointments alongside online, maintain our sliding-scale fees so we can support more people regardless of their finances, and make decisions based entirely on local needs.
“Working on relationships should be as natural as any other aspect of wellbeing. Whether it's couples facing new pressures, individuals understanding their relationship patterns, or anyone wanting to invest in healthier connections, we create the space for those important conversations. Independence gives us the best foundation to do this work well, now and for generations to come.”
What our clients think
Recent relationship counselling clients, Ben and Olivia, shared:
“Counselling gave us the space to truly understand each other. It helped us iron out the wrinkles before marriage and see how our different lived experiences could strengthen, not divide, our relationship.”
