Bristol, Bath, online
Families work better together
Families can be complicated. When relationships are strained, communication breaks down, or you're navigating big changes, our family counselling team are here to help you find your way forward - together.
What is Family Counselling?
Family counselling provides a safe, caring, and confidential environment. Our accredited counsellors help you understand what's not working, hear different perspectives, and find ways to move forward together.
Family is defined by you — anyone who feels like family is welcome. Come alone or with family members. We typically work with:
Parents and children (usually ages 11+)
Step-families and blended families
Adult siblings and extended family (e.g., grandparents)
Every voice is heard — your counsellor ensures this by providing time for the family group, as well as individual time for each attending member to speak freely.

How can Family Counselling help?
Every family faces challenges. Here are some of the most common reasons families seek our help:
Parents and children struggling to communicate, clashing constantly, or feeling disconnected - whether children are young, teenagers, or adults.
Families navigating separation or divorce - helping children cope, managing co-parenting, or blending families with stepchildren.
Siblings caught in long-standing conflict, rivalry, or feeling unsupported by each other.
Extended family tensions - grandparents, aunts, uncles navigating changing roles or boundaries.
Young people worried about their parents' relationship, struggling with family changes, or needing space to be heard.

    What happens in Family Counselling?
Getting started with family counselling
Usually, the person who contacts us attends the first session. This 50-minute meeting with a trained family counsellor gives us a chance to understand what's happening and what you'd like to change. This can be online or face to face in Bristol or Bath.
If other family members join this first session, your counsellor will make sure everyone gets heard. Each person's perspective matters.
Building the full picture
After the first session, we may arrange assessment sessions with other family members to understand everyone’s experience. This helps us tailor the support to what your family needs.
Ongoing sessions
Family therapy typically involves regular 50-minute sessions, weekly or fortnightly depending on what works for you. Sometimes you'll meet as a whole family, sometimes in smaller groups, and sometimes individually, depending on your goals.
How many family counselling sessions will we need?
Some families need just a few sessions while others benefit from longer-term support. Don’t worry, your counsellor will work with you to find the right approach.
How much does Family Counselling cost?
We are a charity and don't make a profit from the services we provide. We charge £68 for an initial assessment. The charge for ongoing counselling is agreed between you and your counsellor (or the administration team).
Reduced counselling fees: we aim to to support everybody who can benefit from our counselling irrespective of their ability to pay. As part of this, we offer reduced counselling fees which we fund from dedicated fundraising and from those clients able to pay higher fees.
